I want to coat a peice of plastic with a clear coating that will change
color when it comes in contact with a liquid in the ph range of 8 - 10,
9 being optimal. I would like the color change to be present for a
period of time but eventually return to the clear state after exposure.
I am thinking of using Phenolphthalein as the pH indicator and blending
it with some type of quick drying polymer. I understand that
Phenolphthalein is normally clear or when exposed to acid but turns red
when exposed to a pH of 8 -10. The coating must be durable. Has anyone
had experience in creating a pH sensitive coating that will only
respond to a narrow range? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
