How to make D2O at home?
|
|
|
Is there a cheap way to make D2O at home , using normal water? Time is no
problem, but I cannot buy D2O , it's pretty expensive; and I don't need 100%
D2O, just 70%-80% should be enough. |

Yes. Burn some deuterium gas in the presence of oxygen. |

Ok, say you did manage to make this D2O at home. What will you be asking
for next.....how to enrich Uranium? |

How can I make a fission bomb?
First, procure 20 lbs of plutonium.... |

It's not expensive. A dollar a gram in small amounts, half that in kg
amounts.
It would be hard to make yourself. You'd have to electrolyze so much
water that your power bill would add up to more than you'd buy it for.
And you'd have a lot of gunk at the end which would be hard to remove.
What do you want it for?

Trying cold fusion ?
It appears to become a sport, retry what scientists
with big budgets fail on.

D2O occurs naturally in regular water.
Separating it is another matter. But that's got to be easier than
separating U235 from U238. H2O is lighter, so it will diffuse through
filters and membranes faster. Reducing that to practice is an exercise
for the reader. There's a reason D2O is expensive.

Aldrich
Deuterium oxide, 99 atom-%
25 g/$(US)23.40
100 g/$(US)67.00
Deuterium oxide, 99.9 atom-%
25 g/$(US)25.10
100 g/$(US)68.60
Have your druggist buy it for you. Note that D2O is extremely
hygroscopic.

Fusion uses Tritium, not Deuterium. |

I recall it being in the range of a dollar per gram. If you can't
afford that then you won't be able to afford to enrich it yourself.
Find an nmr lab and go through their garbage.

Go make it yourself for less. Organikers are not chemical engineers.
ChemE's are told what to make, organikers do the telling. FOaD.

You replied to a post telling the OPer to make water by burning
Deuterium gas in Oxygen. If you were making a *fusion* bomb, you would
want the gas. You need to get the Deuterium *out* of the water to make a
bomb :-)
