Tryptophan
|
|
|
About 25-30 years ago when I was in my early 20s, I had an unusual
eating disorder, eating massive numbers of bananas everyday. If I
remember at the peak I was eating maybe 75 bananas a day. Recently, I
read it is the tryptophan that makes bananas addicting. What makes
tryptophan addicting? |

The web has heard of an addiction to bananas,
(http://www.albemarle-london.com/krappslast.html,
http://www.venturacollegepress.com/media/paper416/news/2004/05/03/Passion/The-Psychology.Of.Addiction-677550.shtml,
http://www.conquestbm.com/dscontact.htm) although I have never come
across it personally. It is true that serotonin is produced in the body
from tryptophan (http://asktom-naturally.com/articles/addictive.html).
Serotonin is the feel-good neurotransmitter boosted by prozac and
similar happy pills, and tryptophan is supposed to relieve depression.
Cheers,
Zigoteau. |

Tryptophan? I think you mean serotonin.

Try to drink some banana beer. Hooch made from bananas is supposed to
deliver a strong punch. Some tribes even used it to produce anesthesia
for surical procedures. With 75bananas a day, maybe you just acted as a
big banana fermentor.
I think you are not serious because 75 bananas is something like
20kilo. By any chance, is your previous nick TVClarkson? |
