Hi

I am trying to remove gold and the nickel barrier from a printed
circuit board with Potassium Iodide + Iodine, to leave very clean
copper.
After which I intend to clean with HCl.

Can anyone see any problems with this method e.g. will it remove nickel
also?

Cheers

will the KI3 even touch the Au? I have experience using a similar
solution to keep an air dried Ni surface unoxidized prior to Cr plate,
but I'd question its ability to remove the Ni also.

have you tried it, or is this a trial balloon? i'm interested in how
it works for you..

good luck.

Hi

Potassium Iodide + Iodine is an standard method used in the
semiconductor industry, Transene sell a similar product see link.

http://www.transene.com/au_etchant.html

I have not tried it on nickel and from my recent queries it may not
work. Therefore, I am trying to find something that will desolve
nickel but keep copper intact. Any suggestion?

Cheers
