Maldacena's duality

For Maldacena's duality, how correct is the following, I'm just trying
to understand it a little from knowing a little about branes, complex
spacetime and spacetime lattices (and I've already heard the perhaps
more relevant analogy of a black hole's surface area being proportional
to the entropy inside, I'm just seeing if there are more analogies).
"It sounds like Maldacena is sticking branes on the surface of the
sphere and the vacuum between branes on the inside. This is a
complex spacetime-like arrangement. The duality that the surface
gives you the inside is kind of like knowing the fermion vertices of a
lattice spacetime gives you the boson links."
