Dear Mdehn,
I can just bring you an example of oyur situation; here, in Italy,
there is a sort of mith (or mystery?!) about died chemical instruments.

For university, when an instrument is no longer in use, after being put
"out of inventory" (low orders it) it MUST be DONATED to the CRI
(Italian Red Cross); this organization will decide to reuse these
pieces for their purposes or to sell them acquiring profit. Boh??!!
I don't know how does it function for privates and factories. Just ask
for the peices u need to all the Chemical Instrumental Companies u
manage to trace!

Bye

There are a variety of companies selling refurbished instruments such as
AA's, but does anyone know of a source for dead instruments?

(I've just had a Varian SpectrAA 600 die, and Varian no longer supplies
repair parts. All I need is a dead one to strip for solenoids, boards,
etc. - since it's unlikely to have died from a failure of the very same
part.)
