The goofer net worked fine for information and business. It could run at
blazing speed on dial up using old systems.

Then every thing went graphic. 99% of our computer horse power is tied up in
making things look pretty.

The power to do it is out there so I guess its okay.

The down side is/was without all the bells and whistles I think the goofer
net would be a much safer communications system to defend and cost very
little to use. The facts were also easier to find.

Man, if I had to choose between gopher (not goofer Wink it's called
gopher because it was developed at the U of Minnesota -- they are the
golden gophers) or the Internet I choose the Internet any day. Speed
isn't an issue with today's high speed connections and security can be
addressed in many ways, both hardware and software. I watched a couple
of Packers press conferences and interviews today plus the NHLs 03/04
Top 10 goals. Couldn't have done that on gopher that well. Wink

You mean you don't like ASCII pictures? If you check you can find a version
of Star Wars on line in ASCII. It is animated!

I do admitt the new stuff has its uses.
