investment calculation

Hi Folks,

Can somebody explain to me how I may do the following calculation
using a spreadsheet?

I have . . .
Total Profit (not total return)
Number of Years Invested
APY

I need . . .
Average invested amount to produce that Total Profit.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Answered in alt.math. If you must post to multiple groups, do it in a
