Actually, they might not be as incompatible as they appear to be.
There's an already established example, in electrodynamics. We
can think of things in terms of electric and magnetic fields
governed by Maxwell's equations or we can say that interactions
occur through the exchange of virtual photons as described by
quantum-electrodynamics. The two are fully compatible.
