I have a problem involving conductive heat flow through a solid. I
am hoping that someone, somewhere, has worked out solutions for the
flow of a known amount of heat through various simple geometries:
A point source of heat on the surface of a half-infinite solid, a
point source on a slab of finite thickness or a sandwich of two layers
with different thermal conductivity, that sort of thing. Is there
any reference or textbook that shows how to find the temperature
distribution in situations like this? So far, I have found examples
of solutions to the wrong sort of problem: An initial temperature
distribution is specified, and disipates over time with no additional
heat input. This is related, but I don't see how to adapt it to my
situation.
