However, the numerical modeling as far as job is concerned could
mean many different things. It could be development of the new models
that don't exist or it could be the usage of commercial packages.

Judging by the duties description, the numerical modelling component of
this job is to use the existing modelling packages, rather than
developing the new computational code from scratch.

What is required in that case is
the demonstration that you can make the right choice consciously, that
you understand both the capabilities and the limitations of the
package(s) and that you know how to use the degrees of freedom that are
available.

I think what I know now about numerical modelling is enough for doing
this job. However, with all that knowledge of numerical modelling, I
failed the previous job interview. The reason is that the interviewer
was digging on the intricaces of working with the modelling packages.
As I said he wanted to find out what I did not know instead of finding
out if I can do the job. In fact, this guy was my supervisor in the
modelling tasks which I did. He confessed to me during giving me the
feedback that he knew that I had the skills in the modelling, however
he told me he did not hear me talking about them and this was why he
"failed" me. How could I talk about what I can do if he constantly
directed me by his questions into the areas which I did not know !??

Anyway, my point of this rant is that I have enough of knowledge of
numerical modelling and I do not need to study it more to pass this
interview. However, I will pass the interview only if they want me to.
If they start digging my knowledge of numerical modelling deeper, I
will be unable to pass the interview no matter how much of preparation
I will have done now.

OK. Still an attitude remains the issue. A bit of enthusiasm.

Actually, I consider your advise what kind of book to read before the
interview to be highly useful. It gave me a reference point, besides of
everything else. Today at work I drummed up enough of enthusiasm for
starting doing computational modelling, and actually was carried away
with doing what my supervisor gave me to do couple of months ago, that
I stayed 1.5 more at work. I think I can fake the enthusiasm for doing
numerical modelling no worse than a woman can fake orgasm Smile .

Secrets for enthusiasm:

Drink for breakfast.. but not too much.
get antidepressants from India... contact me for easy places to buy.
exercise like fucking crazy...
screw the s**t out of any woman available.
Possibly small doses of heroin.. whatever floats your boat.

Walk . lift weights. Keep screwing whatever you find to screw.

Yes men have 2 moods : hungry and horny.. Without an outlet for the
horny, you need the antidepressants and constant excercise. Until you
get the access to 3 times a day sex. perhaps for some less than that.

Bingo.

And you should know how men are upset suspecting that it is fake. Have
this in mind.

Actually, today I ran into a symptathetic departmental head. He told me
what really happened with the position which was "created" for me and
was cancelled. The immigrant interviewer said to the management that I
did not exhibit enough of enthusiasm, and was not talking about the
relevant things. By the end of the day, the interviewer made a report
to the management that nobody of the applicants corresponded to the
selection criteria. A competent numerical modeller was interviewed for
this position as well and was deemed by the interviewer as lacking
skills in numerical modelling. The departmental head said the
management really wanted to see me in this position. And here is the
rub: it became known to me now that the hiree would become a straight
report to this interviewer. Obviously, the interviewer wanted nobody
of the applicants working with him. I was told that the management will
never advertise this position again.

And I was doubting my sanity and my interviewing skills for the past
few months. I suffered for nothing.
