Zinc Chloride solubility in water?
|
|
|
I am trying to do a reverse stain on a SDS-PAGE by first using .2M
Imidazole and then .3M Zinc Chloride. I can't get the ZnCl2 to go into
solution. I have tried heating and even bought a new bottle of ZnCl2.
Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

It's very soluble, just leaving it out of the bottle and it will make it's
own solution.
432g dissolves in 100ml of water. Are you sure you are using water? Is the
water basic? - try adding a drop of HCl.

Zinc Chloride is very soluble in water ... we used to sell it in levels
as high as 70 weight per cent ... You may be getting some hydrolysis
.... or the Zinc Oxide that is generally present to a certain amount
shows up as cloudiness when one tries to dissolve it ...
Add a little HCl to clear it up ...
You can buy 50 % Zinc Chloride USP grade in various places ... |

Thanks for the imput. Yes I am using water. ddH2O. ph=7.68. I added
240 microliters of 1M HCl. I ZnCl2 still didn't go into solution and
it did not proberly stain the gel. I am still at a loss. Everything I
have read says that it should be soluble, but it is acting different
than expected. |

If it's not dissolving in water, and HCl does nothing, then the only
explanation is that what you have is NOT zinc chloride. Get a 'new
bottle' from somewhere else than where you've been getting it, you're
wasting time and there's not much help anyone can give you but the
facts (i.e., it's VERY soluble). |
