Battery Acid SG

I am about to fill some large 2v traction batteries and wonder whether
to use 1260 or 1280 acid. I understand that 1280 acid will enable me
to pull higher discharge rates but at the expense of battery life. The
batteries' original spec was for 1280 acid, but then they were being
discharged with a 5000 amp demand. I am more interested in battery
life, so I am tending towards the 1260 option.
Any thoughts??

For the tracktion application you need to draw high current during use.
If you use lower specific gravity acid then you may have issues
drawing higer current and in effect you may loose acceleration.
However, if you want to use the trackion battery for other application
then you might conisder using lower specific gravity acid.

Moreover the failure mechanism for a tracking battery is shedding of
the active material from cycling and not due to grid corrosion. Higher
specific gravity will increase the corrosion rate and reduce the life.
In traction application it does not matter much.
