The strong nuclear force holds the protons and neutrons together. The
strong nuclear force as a force particle known as a gluon. I do know why
it doesn't work with the electron, only that, it is what holds the
protons and neutrons together.

Not too big a mystery. "Lowest energy state". Look up
"positronium"...

That and the proton is a composite particle, while the electron
seems to be elementary.

A neutron is not involved in H1 hydrogen. A proton has less mass
than a neutron. A proton is comprised of a different number of
up and down quarks than a neutron.

And if electron is held in captivity by neutron,

It isn't. Hydrogen is a light gas that is most commonly two
separate protons, sharing two electrons. No neutron required.

And though the spontaneous decay of a proton (into something
else) has been searched for, none has been noted.
