Shimadzu and World War II

The following email was received by us on June 23, 1997:

To: shimadzu-...@bigfoot.com
From: identity withheld
Subject: Shimadzu activity during WW II

Shimadzu claims to be an old company.... did they make instruments for
the Nazi's or were their instruments involved with American troop
experiments the Japanese conducted? Any history info for WW II?

n.b. In reviewing the historical highlights of Shimadzu, there is a
gapping void in the company timeline from 1936 (when aircraft equipment
manufacturing started at Shimadzu) to 1947 according to published
corporate archives. One has to wonder what was going on in Japan at
Shimadzu during this bellicose period of 11 years? Did any of
Shimadzu's aircraft equipment or technology find its way into Japanese
aircraft or aircraft carriers which were used to wage a surprise attack
on the United States at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941?

n.b. Unfortunately, we are unaware of Shimadzu's brazen activities
during World War II but we would enthusiastically welcome any useful
and accurate contributions! Shouldn't customers from all over the world
be made aware of any unscrupulous activities involving Shimadzu and the
Axis powers during World War II.... particularly if they willfully and
deliberately alienated a race, religion, ethnic background or nation of
citizens!

One would hope so, and that they are a patriotic corporation.
Did any US companies make napalm to drop on innocent civilians?

Of course not, the soldiers' coffee cups were saved and then merely
mixed with surplus gasoline. Or at least that appears to be 'the
consensus'.
