I am planting grass plugs. The normal coverage would be to plant 1
plug per square foot. I over ordered so I would have denser coverage.
I have 1700 square feet of planting area. I ordered 2400 plugs. What
would the formula be to calculate how many inches apart the plugs
should be planted so they are evenly spaced?

Thank you

The square root of 2400 = 48.99 . The square root of 1700 = 41.23 . That's
48.99 plugs in 41.23 feet so 41.23 / 48.99 = 0.84 feet between plugs.

Sqrt [ 1700 / 2400 ] * 12" =~ 10.1 in.

I think 10.1 inches (approximately) might be closer to what

you are looking for.

2400/1700 = 1.412 plugs/sqft
=> 1/1.412 = 0.708 sqft/plug
=> 144*0.708 = 102 sqinch/plug
=> Sqrt(102) = 10.1 ~ 10 inch separation/plug

No, I was looking for 0.84 feet.

There are a few reasons for that. One reason is that I am maintaining
relationship to the beginning parameters. Another reason is that I can leave
something clever to the landscaper to do. And finally, when I measure a yard
I use a surveyor's tape and there are no inches on a surveyor's tape...
