hi
I though i made a 80% and 40% aqueous phenol solution (newly opened
solid phenol with 18.2 Mohm water). The former is colorless while the
latter is whittish which partitions into two layers upon standing. Does
this sound right or did i screw up?

You did not screw up look at the phenol-water phase diagram two
imiscible phases are produced a solution of phenol in water and a
solution of water in phenol.
The phase diagram is real wierd
