Hello...
I know very little regarding paint chemistry (i.e. difference
between enamels, alkyd, lacquers, etc) and am wanting to understand
more. In particular, my hobby is restoring old, vintage radios and
want to understand how to (maybe) make my own wrinkle paint. One
technique that I have heard used is to apply an enamel base coat, let
the paint set for a couple of hours and then apply a top coat of
lacquer. This, supposedly, will cause the enamel to wrinkle. My
problem is that I am not sure what type of enamel should be used. If
the spray
can says 'enamel', can I assume it will work? I've tried experimenting
with this at home and it
doesn't seem to work with the 'enamel' paint that I have. It seems
that spray paints don't really
tell you whether it is an enamel or lacquer based product. Can anyone
shed some light on this
subject?

Another question, is it possible to purchase a 'tung oil alkyd' that
can be tinted? If so, is this
stuff expensive and where would I purchase something like this?

Thanks
-Jim
