Person A: You mean Tower clock has 1 second Interval?

Clocks aren't set back in the summer, they're set forwards.

Clocks aren't set back in the summer..... or forwards.
They're set forward in the spring and set back in the autumn.

set vb. 12a: to adjust to a desired position.
set n. 1b: the condition of being set.
Why did you assume I meant the former as opposed to the latter?

I think he is pointing out that the change to/from daylight time
doesn't happen in the "summer".

Irrelevant
"clock is set (in a condition of) one hour back coz of the summer
days."
The problem is that the condition stated (back) is wrong for summer.
When the change occured has no bearing on this error.

Does anybody understand what this problem *is*?
Could you please restate it in complete, correctly punctuated English
sentences?
In particular, what is the antecedent of "that"?
What does "Interval" (capitalized?) refer to? Interval between what and
what?

In a poorly formed "sentence", divya wrote
| Quote: | Two persons were talking themselves with out knowing that that tower
clock is set one hour back coz of the summer days
|
Then Mensonator wrote, pointing out divya should have written "back":
| Quote: | Clocks aren't set back in the summer, they're set forwards.
|
In reply to *that* sentence, moriman wrote, apparently needling
Mensonator for having his own error (clocks aren't set forwards in the
summer):
| Quote: | Clocks aren't set back in the summer..... or forwards.
They're set forward in the spring and set back in the autumn.
|
Mensonator misses the point and now presents an irrelevant definition
of the verb "to set" as though moriman doesn't understand it:
| Quote: | set vb. 12a: to adjust to a desired position.
set n. 1b: the condition of being set.
Why did you assume I meant the former as opposed to the latter?
|
So I point out the obvious:
| Quote: | I think he is pointing out that the change to/from daylight time
doesn't happen in the "summer".
|
To which Mensonator replies:
| Quote: | Irrelevant
"clock is set (in a condition of) one hour back coz of the summer
days."
The problem is that the condition stated (back) is wrong for summer.
When the change occured has no bearing on this error.
|
Everyone understood that. The problem is you didn't get the point of
moriman's post.

A one second interval between chimes, I suppose. That would mean the
clock strikes eleven, and the meeting would be at ten, though how
you're supposed to factor in the summer time adjustment I have no idea.
Do we want the time of the appointment according to A and B's incorrect
time, or according to the correct local time as shown, presumably, by
the clock? And if they hear the clock chiming eleven then wouldn't they
realise at that point they'd forgotten to adjust their watches? |

I did not make an error. Moriman made an error thinking I made an
error.
| Quote: | (clocks aren't set forwards in the summer):

_IF_ you think "set" is a verb. When "set" is a noun, then clocks are
"in the condition of being" forwards in summer.
| Quote: |

Mensonator misses the point and now presents an irrelevant definition
of the verb "to set" as though moriman doesn't understand it:
|
[Mr.] Kurtz misses the point that although moriman may understand
"to set" as a verb, he apparently does not understand its use as a
noun,
hence, the dictionary lesson.
[Mr.] Kurtz apparently doesn't understand it either.

Thanks for your effort at clarification, but we ought not to have to
suppose what the problem means. Is a chime a point in time, or
does it have a duration, and if so, how long does a chime last?
Is the interval between two successive chimes the length of time
from the end of one chime to the beginning of the following chime,
or from beginning-of-chime to beginning-of-chime?
And again, what does "that" refer to?
The problem is not worth considering until it is stated in an
understandable way. Does the original poster (whose native
language apparently is not English) himself understand the problem?
It would be nice if someone could figure out what this problem is
and translate it into real English.
