Horizon, BBC2, Thursday 13th of July 2006

Tonight the "impartial" voice of the British nanny government,
Auntie Beeb, pronounced radiation to be far less hazardous
than they had previously announced it to be, talking seriously
about the biological effects radiation has.
Mentioned were aircraft routinely flying high and receiving
higher doses of cosmic radiation than at ground level, there is less
"blanket" of atmosphere to protect us from the sun, and of course
Hiroshima, Three Mile Island and Chernobyl, also X-ray
photography to which comparisons were made.
NOT mentioned were alpha, beta and gamma radiation, the first
two being particle radiation, the primary cause of an up-close-
and-personal death sentence from radiation.
Britain now plans to re-establish it's nuclear power stations (which
is fine by me) but I fail to see a reason for the propaganda the fair
minded BBC never produces. Is it me, the views of the BBC have
changed, or was I once gullible enough to believe them years ago?
I probably was. Perhaps they should return to playing "Gawd
Save the Queen" and shut down at the end of a daily transmission.

No simply that knowledge advances. There is one point we should bear in
mind, the Earths magnetic field will shortly be reversing thereby
putting up the radiation levels. That is to say until a South pole
establishes itself in the North. Boy Scounts will have to rely on the
Sun (and GPS) compasses will be useless. This is nothing to do with the
case for or against Nuclear Power. Life of course has survived many
field reversals.
BTW - The most dangerous energy source is in fact hydroelectric. Large
numbers of people get drowned in floods when dams burst. Moreover at
Aswan the region is reverting to desert because of the saline build up.
If the linear curve is abandoned Nuclear will be the safest. |

Lies, damed lies and statistics. The safest form of travel is the space
shuttle, safer than walking along a beach in terms of passenger miles,
and tsunamis never hurt spaceflight. They do kill beachcombers.
Your knowledge has never advanced, you are as stupid now as
you were always were.

I don't think it actually is. A 10 day flight is only |about 8 million |
kilometers. Air safety decress one in 10 million flights. This equates
to about 5,000 million km of about 700 Shutle flights. Anyway the
quotation on safety of energy s per kw/h generated.
Also I think it important that people's minds are put at rest over the
magnetic flip which is inevitable. |

I already know that you don't. No need to repeat it.

10 days? Skylab was in orbit more than 10 days, and so was Mir.
The safest place to be right now is on board the ISS. Obviously
you don't think.
What does "decress" mean, anyway? You don't like cress on your
word salad?
Airlines have quoted passenger miles for years, just as everyone has
talked about radiation being dangerous for years.
|

Yeah, sure. For someone that says he doesn't think, you are just the
right person to do it. NOT. Now I'm really worried about it when I didn't
even think about it before. Shaking in my boots, I am. Anyway, why is it
important to put people's minds at rest? Because yours already is?
Go back to sleep, nobody is interested on your dreams except you.
