Synthetic leather for sound-proofing?

Is synthetic leather a good sound-proof material?

probably not. If you want to use a limp barrier type material it has to
be quite dense to hav any decent Transmission Loss properties. The most
used material is "Loaded Vinyl" this is a rubber impregrated with metal
to make the material heavy. It goes by a few trade names like wavebar,
SoundStop ....
Do a search and you should be able to get some acoustic data for it.

....Wavebar, soundstop etc
Loaded Rubber is RUBBER impregnated with Beryllium sand
....Acoustop
Both typically 4kg/m2 or 8kg/m2 |

(The rubber is a bit more flexible but that's an "ease of installation"
detail, not an acoustic detail) |
