Heating effect in a rotating shaft

I am interested in the heating effects on rotating shafts in magnetic
fields.

If a hollow shaft is rotating at high revs inside a collar of static magnets
will a heating effect occur on the surfaces of the shaft? How can it be
quantified with a mathematical analysis?

I am thinking that this will depend on:
the strength of the magnetic field
the frequency of the rotation of the shaft
the shaft material

I know this is a bit like induction heating, but instead of using an AC coil
and a stationary workpiece can fixed magnets and a rotating workpiece be
used?

I would be grateful if anyone could help me analyse this problem.

Maybe you can find what you're looking for in books dealing with large
electric motor design. They ofen insulate the shaft bearings of these
motors to prevent eddy currents from damaging them.
