Not so. We are routinely applying reason to discuss processes
which as such are not necessarily created by any acts of reason.
Any physical law can be used as an example. Life is just one
of such processes. Thermodynamics is an external treatment to all
processes (including Life) therefore it can be used to show why process
takes place.
Here is example of such "why" explanation: Reaction O2 + H2->H20
takes place at given temperature T and pressure P because
change of dG=dH - TdS from left to right is negative under this conditions.
The same approach can be applied to process "Life", except treatment
will include 3 steps:
1) reaction A + B --> C has dG1<0, however it is slow without
catalyst
2) catalyst L is thermodynamically unstable, e.g.
L + environment --> decomposition products has dG2>0
3) abs(dG1)>abs(dG2) therefore in presence of 1) reaction 2) can
be reversed (excess of dG1 is used to apply work to conteract dG2),
which means L is stabilized as long as A+B are present.
Above 3 points is a formula of Life (which is the conditionally stable
catalyst "L"). Its existence does not require any external "reason".
It does require that thermodynamics laws are correct, however these
laws are purely statistical in their nature and are therefore a-priory
correct.
We do have to apply reason to understand why this process takes place,
however.

Evgenij

It is reasonable for me to say then that all forms of life exhibit motion.
The elaboration to motion would mean more than several million different
possible formulas (or more); this accounts for matter moving within an elixir
of immaterial forces and cannot be comprehended by the Human Brain.

Hi Evgenij_Barsukov,
I see TI.COM in your Message_ID's, do you work for Texas Instruments ?
I think you define the word life as: A cyclical ignition equalibrium.
The more human-centric view
contrains the set of Cyclical_Ignition_Equalibriums to liquid water. |

My apologies if I left the impression that I was trying to flame you.
That is something I rarely do, because I rarely nede to.
I was merely trying to convey the fact that I simply dislike you.
You seem to combine an egomania with a willingness to abuse others that
is extremely unbecoming, and unlikely to change.
I sense in you an inner insecurity for which you overcompensate with a
need to remind yourself of your superiority, a trait rarely seen in
people who have true superiority and are comfortable with themselves.
Much of your manner reminds me of those pitiful folks whose greatest
claim to fame is that they qualify for Mensa.
You are probably a very lonely person whose greatest hope for lifelong
companionship will be found in a co-dependent relationship with an
insecure masochist of mediocre intelligence.
I merely pity you.

Life revolves around consumption.
|
|
|
Hi T_Wake, I told me something like this:
You are too concerned with appearing deep and philosophical.
I bet you wish you were 10 years [ ¿ younger ]
so you could sit round in coffee shops wearing a French beret and
quote poetry/philosophy to the young impressionable girls.
What ? You don't believe I was born in Seattle at the start of 1960 ?
I've been philosophical all my life... this is nothing new.
I was spending hours a day in coffee shops back in 1988.
And yes, there were lots of young kids/hippies there.
Except for one really odd ( and unbelievably amazing ) woman,
all the women I dated were from bars, not coffee shops.
Hmm... amazing how life revolves around consumption like that. |

Mensa can actually be a fun club, especially the National meetings.
You should try it sometime. It's not that hard to get into.

I assume no responsibility for your personal misuse of the word
"reason."
As a physical scientist, I concern myself with objects and events, and
with processes and mechanisms to understand *how* (i.e. in what
manner, by what mechanism) things happen.
I don't ask "why" because that presumes that there is a *reason* for
something to be the way it is, or to behave the way it does. That is
too theosophical for my tastes.
My philosophy teacher also took exception to the fact that I pointed
out to her that questions beginning with the word "why" have the
implicit assumption that the willful act of a *reasoning being* was
precedent to the question. She never did learn how to ask "how" some
condition prevailed or "how" some event occurred. But then she also
could not handle calculus.

I was invited once. The invitation came from a counselor at my junior
college who had access to my personal file and who "just knew" I would
have no trouble qualifying.
She was someone who commanded very little respect from me. I also
learned their standards were a little too low for me.
I later became a member of TNS (the Triple-Nine Society)
http://www.triplenine.org/
and the Prometheus Society
http://www.prometheussociety.org/
briefly, but I let those lapse.
As a high-functioning autistic personality, I find I have little
personal need or desire for peer 'fellowship.'
I scan this newsgroup as a duty, mostly to help people who genuinely
want and need help with physics/chemistry.

Crank_Lover, do you have a home ?
|
|
|
Hi Crank_Lover, I don't have anything like an hourly rate.
I charge USD 600 per month now because my rent/utilities went from
250 per month to 400 ( after I harbored too many homeless people ).
I honestly don't know what motivates me to put in the hours.
Maybe it has to do with how urgently I imagine people need the code.
Motivation has always been a _Serious_ problem for me,
....I'd rather just pork out, getting ever fatter, or waste time here.
I could easily setup numerous people up with fully working computers,
complete with loads of software and WiFi connections ( and get paid ),
....yet I don't do it ( I could also tutor ).
I'd house homeless people but my landlord would beat the crap out of me,
both physically ( via paid Hall_Nazis ) and in court.
You serenated to me:
You are a stupid tit. you cant even work out
how to reply to posts properly. you ignorant cunt.
You don't do so badly. Maybe you could spend more time thinking about
what you really want to say, paraphrasing more and auto-quoting less.
But then you'd be wasting as much time as I do on Usenet.
Perhaps you could read/post via my X.EXE and Visual_Studio
instead of Google. Can you code in C++ for Win_XP ?
Do you have a computer at home ? Do you have a home ?
You told me:
You aren't fucking social because
you are a parasitic leech with no fucking social skills.
No one likes you. you think this makes you cool
but it just marks you are a fucking pathetic looser.
Why would it be cool to have no social skills ? !
Do you get the proverbial Crazy_Check ? Are you happy/content ?
Re: How I was _Forced_ to kick Miranda out, You told me:
I would have broken your wortheless jaw and fingers.
Why, because I was the only one who'd help you in your time of need ?
Are you homeless ? Do you break a lot of jaws ?
You added:
What the f*** did any of that have to do with
your ridiculous " plonk " comment. seriously, how fucking stupid are you ?
I have the computer skills to help lots of people,
but I turn them away... I f*** them off ( I don't know why ).
The more people who plonk me ( in life or Usenet ) the happier I am.
You concluded:
Well if you were actually decent at your frigging job
you would get paid more than minimum wage.
as it stands, people on welfare get more.
I can't get welfare. Even if I did, at 339 a month, it wouldn't pay my rent.
As I said at the start, I don't have an hourly rate.
A dollar is like a vote, and I don't care who votes for me. |
